Growing Older

By: John Lee

The hair is thin

And the routine is thicker

And the weeks are weaker

Eyes are glassed

Ears are aided

Spirit moves slowly

As the careers are abated.

The “yes sirs” and “no sirs”

Come with invisibility

And the aches in the limbs

Come with groans and less mobility.

Memories and dreams are

The animators and specters

of the long, gone loves

That served as creators.

The worries get worried less

Here in the land of the leaving

And is flooded with tears

But alas the body and heart keep

Right on beating.
